OK, I cruise a lot and can give you a specific recommendation. I have cruised from both San Diego and LA and in my opinion the best cruise for you would be on the Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Mariner of the Seas. You can look at the features of this ship right on the Royal Caribbean web site: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/class/ship/home.do;jsessionid=00003Z-FsewPJ0svasLn6JdVWDG:12hdhu6tq?shipCode=MA

This ships does regular cruises to Mexico and the prices are great. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/search/vacationSearchResult.do;jsessionid=00003Z-FsewPJ0svasLn6JdVWDG:12hdhu6tq?qvsHome=yes&cS=QVS&date=ANY&dest=ANY&port=ANY&ship=MA&cruiseTourOnly=false&btn_findcruises.x=68&btn_findcruises.y=7

The ship has lots of things for you to enjoy on ship like the rock climbing wall, mini-golf course, ice skating, roller skating, basketball, a karaoke bar, and a special area of the ship for teens called Adventure Ocean with a teen disco area that's open until about 2:00 AM every evening. Its called Fuel.

We cruised on this ship a few years ago when it had its home port in Port Canaveral and it is truly a fun ship. The Carnival ships are fun but do not have as many activities on ship as Royal Caribbean.
References :
experienced cruiser

Sorry to throw a wrench in your plan, but you have to be at least 21 on most cruise lines to go by yourself or with friends. Some cruise lines you even have to be 25. I think Cunard is one of the few cruise lines where you have to be 18. Either way, you're going to have to call around to get information from the different cruise lines.

If your parents or someone over 21+ (Carnival might be 25+. You definitely need to check with the cruise line) is going, then you might be okay. Talk to your parents and see if they're interested in going. Otherwise, you might be out of luck...
References :
Go with the Carnival Splendor out of LA for a 7 day cruise. Dates can be May 2, 9, 16 and so on. Really good buy to $399 and up. Nice ship to, its was built in 2008. If you go when school is in session you wont have tons of kids. cheers
References :
http://vacationstogo.com/ticker.cfm
