Ever work on a cruise ship?

I’m looking in to working for disney cruise lines as a youth activities counselor, curious to what life is like working on any cruise ship.
I’ve never even been on a cruise.
Any information would be great!
Just more info, I have tons of work experience in the child care field, I have a CDA, and numerous references from both the board of education, teachers, parents and co-workers. I also have experience with special needs children (mainly Autism and behaviour disorders)

Also, disney cruise lines don’t require an education degree although it’s helpful. I have what counts, which is actual work experience along with an Associates.

My son worked several contracts for Carnival / Princess. He worked 6 month contracts but could’ve had longer ones. He was well & truly ready for a break after 6mths. He did it more for the opportunity to travel and see countries that he normally would never have visited, rather than for the money. He was able to save a little bit (depends on your country of currency exchange) owing to the fact that you’re meals, board are all incl. He said the food for crew wasn’t always the best so would often buy a meal when in port, providing he wasn’t on duty and not allowed off ship.

from what i have heard, hours are very very long when you work on cruiseships, pay is low (for american’s expectations, that is ) and you have to sign a 6 month or more contract. You are away from your home, work 6 to 7 days a week, split shifts.
also for youth counselors, they prefer someone who has a bachelors degree in childhood development, or education/and someone with experience.
all that said, i would still contact the cruiseline, and find out more.
